161 pregnant women avail of free health services on Buntis Day

BONTOC, Mountain Province – One hundred sixty one pregnant women in the province joined in the celebration of the 15th National Araw ng Buntis with the theme “Kaagapay ni Buntis sa Panahon ng Kalamidad at Krisis.”

The celebration of the “Buntis” Day pursuant to Presidential Proclamation No. 569 declaring the 10th day of March of every year as “Araw ng mgaBuntis” aims to educate the women on pregnancy-related issues and to instill the importance of prenatal check-up during pregnancy to avoid maternal deaths.

This year, March 10 falls on a Saturday thus, the provincial celebration was moved earlier to March 9, Friday.

Services offered include free prenatal checkup, urinalysis, ultrasound, prenatal vitamins, and antibiotics for those who have infections.

Aside from these services, also conducted were series of lectures on self defense, disaster preparedness and risk reduction of “Buntis” in times of calamities and crisis, family disaster preparedness, violence against women and children, maternal nutrition and prenatal care.

The Araw ng Buntis celebration in the province was made possible by the Philippine Obstetrical Gynecological Society, Inc. Mt. Province Chapter headed by Dr. Imelda A. Sabog, in cooperation with Bontoc General Hospital, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office and the General Services Office. /(PIA Mt. Province)
