BAGUIO CITY – Typhoon Lando’s onslaught in the summer capital left 2 children dead, 7 hurt and 483 families fleeing to evacuation centers here.
Sisters Dianne (7) and Vanessa (6) De Padua Tucay were the casualties when a landslide buried their house in Purok 7, Tacay road, Fairview.
Injured are Evelyn De Padua (36), River Maya De Padua (15) and Bienvenido Tucay (45) who were given immediate medical attention.
Four year old Charizza Fernandez also suffered abrasion on her head when a Pine Tree fell on her house in Lower Cabinet Hill while Larry Fernandez (49) suffered blunt abdominal injury.
Lourdes Soneja (67) of domincan Road suffered a dislocation on her left leg when the roof of her house was blown off while Isabelita Villanueva (75) suffered a fracture on her right rib during a landslide which affected her house in Balcbac, Sto. Tomas Proper.
More or less 1,888 persons or 483 families were evacuated and provided with relief supplies by the Office of the Social Welfare and Development Office (OCSWADO) and concerned groups and individuals.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and management Council (CDRRMC) recorded the following barangays with directly affected families; Gibraltar evacuated 2 families or 15 persons, Pacdal – 1 family, 5 persons, Honeymoon – 7 families, 28 persons, Lower Rock Quarry – 157 families, 503 persons, City Camp Central – 22 families, 78 persons, Middle Rock Quarry – 34 families, 116 persons, BGH Compound – 31 families, 136 persons, Irisan – 14 families, 51 persons, Lourdes Extension – 52 families, 202 persons, Kias – 43 families, 214 persons, Camp 8 – 1 family, 4 persons, Balsigan – 2 families, 7 persons, Brookspoint – 1 family, 3 persons, Ambiong – 5 families, 23 persons, East Bayan Park – 3 families, 8 persons, Happy Hollow – 2 families, 7 persons, Brookside – 2 families, 12 persons, Dizon Subdivision – 2 families, 5 persons, Upper Quezon Hill – 2 families, 6 persons, Cresencia Village – 1 family, 6 persons, MRR Queen of Peace
– 6 families, 23 persons, Sto. Tomas Proper – 30 families, 155 persons, City Camp Proper – 22 families, 78 persons, Dominican Mirador – 5 families, 21 persons, Fairview – 2 families, 8 persons, Bakakeng Central – 5 families, 26 persons, Gabriela Silang – 5 families, 23 persons, North Sanitary Camp – 6 families, 23 persons, Phil-Am Compound – 1 family, 5 persons, Cabinet Hill Teachers Camp – 7 families, 40 persons, Session road Gov. pack – 1 family, 7 persons, Pinsao Proper – 8 families, 41 persons and Bakakeng Norte – 1 family, 9 persons.
The affected families were brought to the nearest evacuation centers while the others were taken-in by their neighbors.
Approximately six (6) houses were totally damaged while 27 were partially damaged.
Meantime, the CDRRMC said at least 93 landslides and soil erosion occurred, 232 trees fell causing damage to property and 7 floods have been recorded.
Presently, 66 electrical problems have also been reported while the Baguio Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) has restored 60% of electrical power as of October 21.
Estimated damages caused by Typhoon lando is estimated at 5 million pesos more or less./Paul Rillorta
