Baguio Character council extends to religious council

BAGUIO CITY- Religious leaders in the city were oriented as to the Baguio Character Council program with Mayor Mauricio Domogan and Lady councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda at the Crown Legacy Hotel, last week.

Speaking before more than 60 local religious leaders, Councilor Tabanda emphasized that the involvement of each sector to the character council is important.

Earlier, the character council sponsored a day of character-enhancing program for women leaders who were expected to re-echo same to colleagues and constituents.

Councilor Tabanda then explained that more multi-sectoral orientations are scheduled for the character program. With 49 core character traits to be nurtured since 2003, and Baguio a member of the International Association of Character Cities, Tabanda saw it fit for an interfaith program in the city.

The religious sector are credible models for the citizens, the councilor said, thus the forged partnership. Being a character city would mean a righteous government and disciplined-citizenry, family-oriented activities in the academe and community, individuals developed physically and intellectually, sufficient business and economy, balanced politics, she added.

The multi-sector factor would move the character council in the right direction, Tabanda said.

Mayor Domogan urged active participation from the religious leaders to the character council program, notwithstanding differences in churches, ethnicity and groupings. He requested from them, programs to help combat vices, teen-age pregnancies and too much politics; and activities for unification of the family, peace and order in the community./Julie G. Fianza
