Baguio currently ahead in Batang Pinoy medal standings

BAGUIO CITY – With numerous medals in the athletics competition still to be decided as of press time, the Summer Capital’s delegation to this year’s Batang Pinoy competitions in Davao del Norte and Tagum City has so far garnered a medal haul of 136 medals (55 gold, 39 silver and 42 bronze) putting them currently on top of the medal standings.

City sports office head Gaudencio Gonzales said that the final medal tally will be known by Monday, December 12.

He added that Baguio came in second to Quezon City in last year’s event with the Cebu delegation placing third. The athletes from Cebu are currently in second place this year, Gonzales said.

He revealed that this year, the city fielded 375 delegates composed of 325 athletes, 40 coaches and 10 heads of delegation.

More than 12,900 delegates from 256 local government units participated in the latest Batang Pinoy edition held from November 27 to December 2, Gonzales said.

The young athletes competed in 26 sporting disciplines including archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball 3 on 3, boxing, chess, cycling, dancesport, gymnastics, judo, karatedo, lawn tennis, pencak silat, rugby football, sepaktakraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, triathlon/duathlon, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling and wushu. /Gaby Keith
