BAGUIO CITY – The city’s Public Employment Service Office (PESO) was adjudged one of the best performing PESOS in the country during the 16th National Public Employment Service Officers’ Congress last week at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahog, Cebu.
The theme of this gathering was “Pinagtibay na Bagong PESO: Tulay sa Pag-asenso sa Buhay ng Manggagawang Pilipino.’
Baguio City was nominated as one of the four best-performing PESOs in the highly urbanized city category which included Valenzuela, Olongapo, and Cebu.
For this year, Cebu City was adjudged as the best performing PESO in the country edging out the three other finalists in the coveted search.
Jose Atanacio, Executive Assistant of the City Mayor’s Office and concurrent PESO Manager, said the nomination of the Baguio PESO as one of the finalists this year serves as an inspiration to the office. He assured the city’s PESO will double its efforts to help the local government improve its employment facilitation services for the benefit of qualified local residents.
Last year, Baguio was a finalist in the search for best performing PESO where Davao City emerged as the winner in the highly urbanized city category.
In 2013, Baguio also landed as a finalist in the search for best performing PESO where Quezon City was declared the winner in the highly urbanized city category.
Atanacio assured the city PESO will innovate the implementation of its various programs and services to help in assisting qualified local residents to land in gainful employment.
According to him, the PESO officials and employees will align their respective services to the current trends in job generation to guarantee work for the qualified local residents.
Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan commended the Baguio PESO for its achievement as one of the best-performing PESOs in the country, saying that such accomplishment should serve as empowerment for officials and employees to continue appropriate innovations in its existing programs and projects.
Under the law, local governments are mandated to create the Public Service Employment Office (PESO) to be in charge of assisting qualified local residents in seeking gainful employment.
Domogan called on local residents seeking employment to avail of the services of the PESO to look for jobs fit to their qualifications, either locally or overseas, to help reduce the unemployment./By Dexter A. See
