Barangay officials urged to monitor drug surrenderees

BAGUIO CITY – With the city government of Baguio’s battle against illegal drugs, mayor Mauricio Domogan urged all officials of the 128 barangays in the city to monitor the drug surrenderees in their jurisdiction.

The local chief executive disclosed that not all the 2,386 drug surrenderees in the city are undergoing community-based drug rehabilitation program conducted by the city social welfare and development office in collaboration with the religious and private volunteer groups.

Considering the significant number of drug surrenderees in the city, about 500 of the drug surrenderees had undergone and completed all the sessions of the community-based drug rehabilitation program.

Domogan directed the Baguio City Police Office to give the lists of drug surrenderees to the respective barangays concerned for the barangay officials to monitor them and at the same time encourage them to undergo the community-based drug rehabilitation program of the city.

Moreover, there are some drug cleared barangays being suspected to be drug affected again, thus, the barangay officials are urged to continue monitoring their respective jurisdiction so as not to be included again in the list of drug affected barangay.

Out of the 128 barangays in Baguio, there are 122 barangays declared to be drug cleared, six to be moderately affected and four to be unaffected.

Among the unaffected barangays are Country Club Village, Upper Dagsian, Happy Hallow and Lower Genera Luna. Said barangays were acknowledged and recognized during the 26th Local Government Day celebration last Oct. 10 at the Baguio Convention Center. /Jho Arranz
