LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – The Benguet Provincial Capitol is now a public wifi hotspot.
Provincial officials led by Governor Crescencio Pacalso together with Smart/PLDT Vice President for Business Operations Benedicto Perez launched the internet connectivity project spearheaded by the Department of Information Communications Technology at the Provincial Capitol last November 21.
The wi-fi hotspot with Smart/PLDT as the service provider allows free internet access for 30 minutes everyday with speed that can reach up to 100 megabytes per second. Its accessibility is within a 100-meter radius with10 access points in the area, Smart/PLDT Business Relations Manager Louie Metra explained.
There will be charges for the extended usage. One may opt to buy cards at P20 for two hours and P50 for 10 hours which can be used anywhere in the country. The cards are available at the Benguet Government Employees Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
Perez said they are continuously rolling out such service the same technology and service provided in airports. He also assured their company will provide ICT services and extend other ICT requirements needed by the provincial government.
Pacalso acknowledged the company for installing the internet connectivity saying this is a good opportunity especially among students in doing their research and home works. This will allow better connectivity in the province, he added.
He is requesting the company if they could extend additional 30 minute free access.
In the Cordillera region, only Baguio City and the province are the recipients of the free wi-fi access project to date. /PIA Benguet
