LA TRINIDAD – The Benguet State University(BSU) registered a growing number of foreign students.
For this school year, there are 34 international students from South Korea, Timor-Leste, Thailand, Japan, Libya, Ghana, Saudi Arabia and Nepal compared to the 29 for the SY 2013-2014.
Last April, BSU conferred seven international students their respective degrees. They are Amaral, FredericoTimorese (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine); Park, Donghyun, S. Korean (Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education); Prereira, Abrao Jose, Timorese (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine); Kachilei, Levy K., Kenyan (Master of Science in Agricultural Economics); Kang, Yeon Hee, S. Korean (Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Administration and Supervision); Nguyen, Te Dinh, Japanese (Master in Community Development); and Cho, Gun Moog, Chinese (Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management- October 2014)
International students who are mostly South Koreans also patronize the BSU-International Language Center’s short and intense English language courses.
ILC offers the Intensive Functional English Language Program; English for Academic Purposes; Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; Advance English Proficiency; ESL Online Learning Program; Tutorial-Foreign and Local Languages; and Special Program for English Language and Literature.
Since July 2014, the Office of the University Registrar through its Bureau of Immigration (BI)-accredited Liaison Officer, Mr. Jeric Amor D. Mabale, has been providing support services to the needs of international students in coordination with the BI-Baguio Satellite Office, BI-Main Office in Intramuros, Manila, and the BI Student Desk in Quezon City.
Transnational education is advocated by the Commission on Higher Education to all colleges, schools and universities per memorandum 02 series of 2008./JDP/JBZ- PIA
