Capacity training on human rights, slated this April

BAGUIO CITY – The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) regional office in cooperation with the city government thru the city human rights action team and the Department of Interior and Local Government will conduct a Monitoring and Continuing Capacity Building Training on Human Rights on April 2 and 3, this year, at the City Hall multi-purpose hall.

CHR regional director Romel Daguimol said the two-day event aims to evolve and sustain a culture of human rights which he defines as the supreme, inherent and inalienable rights to life, dignity and self-development and it is the essence of these rights that makes man human.

CHR information officer Aloy Igopen said target participants are around forty human rights action officers from different barangays in the city who were also requested for copies of their barangay resolutions establishing their barangay human rights action center and creating their barangay human rights action team.

He explained that the requested copies of the barangay resolutions will be used by the CHR for its reference and monitoring purposes.

CHR training specialist Marlyn Palangdao said topics to be discussed during the training include basic concepts and principles of human rights; human rights in good local governance; strengthening human rights at the local government units; women and LGBT rights; children and juvenile justice welfare act; PWD rights; anti-torture law and other subjects.

She added that similar activities are planned in the coming months for barangay human rights action officers who have not yet undergone the training./gaby keith
