Carless day launch, zumba, run, free smoke-belching test for clean air month

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) compound serves as venue for the launching of “carless day within the DENR,” zumba and run on November 10, as a free smoke-beching test for vehicles is scheduled at a later date.

Said activities are conducted in celebration of clean air month, climate change consciousness week and Philippine Environment Awareness, in coordination with the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay (BLISTT) airshed governing board.

In a letter from the EMB-DENR In-charge Alex Luis to Mayor Mauricio Domogan, the activities are expected to raise awareness on clean air, with the “Perwisyong Usok! Pigilan,” campaign with the tagline “Konting Abala, Laking Ginhawa,”of the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB-DENR).

Gunstart for the “Run For Cleaner Air,” at the DENR compound, is with gunstart at 5AM for the 3k, 5k and 10k run, while the zumba starts at 7 AM; both activities for World Environment Health Day.

The launch for carless day within the DENR compound takes place at 9AM.

The free smoke-belching tests may be scheduled mid-November by the Roadside Inspection, Testing and Monitoring Team (RITMT) head Water, Waste water and air ambience Monitoring Division (WWAMD) of the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO)

Active participation from members of the BLISTT area is expected for the protection of the environment, Luis added. /Julie G. Fianza
