Child friendly barangay validation starts

BAGUIO CITY – The composite team of the search for Child Friendly Barangay headed by the City Social Welfare office recently conducted an actual site visitation and interview to the 24 barangays who joined the said search last Nov. 12 until Nov. 19.

The members of the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children were present during the actual site visitation and interview.

The 24 participating barangays who joined the search for Child Friendly barangay includes PMA Fort del Pilar, Atok Trail, Loakan Proper, Bakakeng Norte/Sur, Fil-Am, Quezon Hill Proper, Happy Hollow, South Drive, Lualhati, Pacdal, Imelda Village, Manuel Roxas, Holyghost Proper, Honeymoon-Holyghost, Holyghost Extension, Lopez Jaena, Trancoville, Lower Quirino Hill, Middle Quirino Hill, MRR Queen of Peace, Lourdes Subdivision Extension, Upper Rock Quarry, Middle Rock Quarry and Poliwes.

The search is part of the 23rd National Children’s month celebration in the city with the theme “Komunidad at Pamahalaan Magkaisa, Pang aabuso sa Bata, Wakasan Na!,” showing support in the promotion of children’s welfare in the barangay and the city as a whole.

As in the past, National Children’s Month is being celebrated in the month of October. However, President Benigno Aquino signed Republic Act 10661 declaring the month of November as the national children’s month.

Accordingly, the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) said the law mainly changed the month of the celebration from October to November to commemorate the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989 and the Philippines signing the CRC./Jho Arranz
