BAGUIO CITY – After the planting of pine tree seedlings comes clearing and weeding to ensure their steady growth.
This was emphasized by Beatriz Gajete, City Environment and Parks Management Office-Forestry Division’s supervising environmental management officer, in Monday’s flag-raising ceremony.
“Just as our planted seedlings are gaining ground to stabilize, the rapid and fast pace growth of grass hounds and compromises the growth and survival of our planted seedlings,” she said.
Last June, city government officials and employees planted numerous pine tree seedlings in designated planting sites at the Forbes Park and Buyog areas, here, during the first phase of the city’s contribution to the National Greening Program (NGP).
For the NGP’s second phase, Gajete said her office has already furnished the various city hall departments copies of their respective clearing schedules this November and December as approved by Mayor Mauricio Domogan.
She also acknowledged the offices that have done their share of clearing and weeding including the Department of Education-Baguio division, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, City Administrator’s Office, City Buildings and Architecture Office and City Engineers Office.
“All roads lead to our respective planting sites as we manifest our premium concern for the environment. Let’s go back to rescue the seedlings we planted from weeds, grass and other undesirable growth,” she added./Gaby Keith#
