City Health Ohffice raises Dengue alert

BAGUIO CITY- – The City Health Services Offices is calling for a community action against dengue as cases continue to rise and clustering of cases already being experienced in several barangays.

Baguio HSO City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit Head, Dr. Donnabel Tubera, disclosed that from September 1 to October 5, 283 dengue cases were recorded in Baguio City, which is way high compared to the 30 cases recorded during the same period last year.

Tubera also affirmed the clustering of cases in several barangays with Camp 7 having the most cases with 25, followed by Irisan with 14, Bakakeng Central with 11, Loakan Proper with eight and Dontogan and Rock Quarry with seven each.

There were also seven barangays with six cases each, two barangays with five, 11 barangays with four while five others have three cases each, she added.

Tubera pointed-out that dengue cases are expected to be on the down trend at this time of the year but the occasional rain and warm weather brought by El Niño are possibly causing the rapid multiplication of Aedes Aegypti (dengue) mosquito.

Tubera reiterated the health office’s call for social mobilization against Dengue such as the conduct of community action like the ABKD (Aksyon barangay Kontra Dengue) and a Public-Private Partnership for delivery of program, policies and services against Dengue, as well as for an intensified IEC (information, education and communication) campaign with the help of the media.

Dengue can be deadly it is preventable which is why health authorities are always calling for the public to search and destroy possible dengue mosquito breeding sites, and to seek early consultation especially young and old, who experience fever for two days./JDP/CCD – PIA CAR
