City Prepares for Cordi Month Celebration

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Mauricio Domogan directed concerned offices here to start ground preparations for the activities marking the 28th anniversary of the Cordillera Administrative Region.
The City will take part in the celebration’s unity gong relay on July 13 where city officials will receive the gong from their Benguet counterparts in a program set 7 a.m. at the city limit near Bell Church.
The entourage will proceed to the City Hall grounds for the program.
The program will kick off via the beating of the gong first by Benguet Governor Nestor Fongwan and then by Mayor Domogan. Fongwan will deliver his turn-over speech to be followed by Domogan’s acceptance number.
Updates on the CAR will be given by DILG Baguio director Evelyn Trinidad and regional directors John Castaneda and Milagros Rimando.
The program will be followed by a tree planting activity at the City Hall park.
The Cordillera month celebration will focus on the theme, “Protecting the Environment for a Greener Cordillera.”
The celebration will begin on July 8 with the unity relay. The symbolic gong will be transported to Apayao where a simple acceptance program will be held on July 9, 8 a.m. before its transfer and turn-over to Kalinga at 4 p.m.
It will stay overnight in Kalinga before it will be transported to Ifugao at 7 a.m. and expected to arrive at 12 noon of July 10. On July 11, the gong is expected to arrive in Mt. Province at 8:30 a.m. and will travel to Benguet from 7 a.m. of July 12.
The gong will leave Baguio at 1:30 p.m. and is expected to be turned over to Abra at 6 p.m. It will go back to Apayao on July 14 where a cultural night will be staged.
All the provinces and cities traversed by the unity gong will hold acceptance programs and tree-planting activities in keeping with the celebration theme.
