BAGUIO CITY – The city government of Baguio through the City Social Welfare and Development Office released financial assistance due to the victims of typhoon Lando last year.
A total of P1,625,000 million was personally handed to the 288 beneficiaries/families whose houses were damaged during the onslaught of the typhoon.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Betty Fangasan disclosed that under existing rules and regulations, individuals whose houses are totally damaged during the onslaught of calamities will receive cash assistance amounting to P20,000 from the city government while those whose structures were partially damaged will be receiving a cash assistance of a maximum of P10,000 depending on the extent of damage inflicted to the structures.
Mayor Mauricio Domogan explained to the affected families on the delay in the release of the financial assistance during the onslaught of typhoon Lando is because of the stringent rules and regulations in the assessment, evaluation and validation of the damages inflicted to their properties.
It is remembered that September of last year, typhoon Lando struck the city of Baguio and other parts of Northern and Cental Luzon causing damages to hundreds of houses in the different barangays of the city and according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and management Council (NDRRMC), typhoon Lando was the worst storm to hit Philippines in 2015. /Jho Arranz
