BAGUIO CITY – simple pledges will go a long way.
This was exhibited by City Officials, government workers and members of the scouting council during Mondays Flag Raising Ceremony in the summer capital in celebration of the Rice Awareness Month.
As per Presidential Proclamation 524 series of 2004, the month of November is declared National Rice Awareness Month in the country.
The United Nations also declared the year 2004 as International Year of Rice (IYR) which heightens public awareness on rice and its interrelationship with malnutrition and poverty in order to sustain the attainment of global food security.
Congressman Nicasio Aliping, Jr., Mayor Mauricio Domogan, Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, City Councilors, the Scouting Council led by its National Executive Chairman Reinaldo Bautista, Jr., the Scouts officials for a Day (SOFAD) led the Panatang Makapalay.
The purpose of which is to encourage the general public to be responsible rice consumers.
The year 2013 was also declared the National year of Rice.
The Department of Agriculture-CAR (DA) also enjoins all government offices and Local Government Units in CAR including schools to recite the Rice Pledge during flag-raising ceremonies every Monday in support of the advocacy against rice wastage./Paul Rillorta
