BAGUIO CITY – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here has set aside two Saturdays of September exclusively for the registration of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens.
Sept. 11 is exclusively for the PWDs and Sept. 18 is for the elderly.
“Exclusive po yun for them para ma-focus attention namin sa kanila (So they will be the focus of our attention),” said lawyer John Paul Martin, Comelec-Baguio election supervisor, in a message sent via Facebook messenger on Thursday.
He said the two Saturdays are to ensure an easy time to register for the PWDs and seniors.
However, the Comelec has yet to set any target or expectations in the number of registrants from these two sectors.
The registrants must bring a valid identification or a birth certificate.
Comelec registration and other voter transactions such as transfer of registration, correction or change of entry in the voter registration, and reactivation of voting status are currently done at the SM-Baguio mall to accommodate registrants while still complying with the rules on social distancing amid the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic.
“Our office is small and we do not want to crowd people that is why we requested an area in the mall, where most if not all people go to,” Martin said.
As of Thursday morning, the city listed 151,235 registered voters with a limit of 300 clients being served per day.
The registration of voters will be until Sept. 30. /Liza Agoot (PNA)
