Comelec gun ban starts January 10

BAGUIO CITY – – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminds the public that total gun ban will start on January 10 until June 8, 2016, the election period for the May 2016 national and local elections.

Atty. Julius Torres, Comelec Cordillera regional director, bearing of firearms and other deadly weapons is strictly prohibited during the election period.

Only law enforcers in full uniform and who are on official duty will be allowed to carry firearms outside of residence, he said.

Police Cordillera Regional Director, P/CSupt Ulysses Abellera, said Comelec check points will be placed in strategic areas to strictly implement the gun ban. The propagation of loose firearms he said is one of the main causes of violence during election period.
