COMELEC sets off-site registration on Oct. 19-20 at SM Baguio

BAGUIO CITY– The Commission on Elections in Baguio City will conduct an off-site registration at SM City Baguio on October 19 to 20.

City Election Officer, Atty. John Paul Martin, said that they have partnered with the SM City Baguio to conduct the off-site registration at the mall targeting the city’s more than 10,000 voters who have not yet registered or updated their voters registration.

The COMELEC will receive applications for registration and validation of registration at the second floor of the mall from 10:00AM to 9:00PM on Monday and Tuesday.

Martin said that the off-site registration will encourage more qualified voters to registrar, and registered voters to have their biometrics data taken as SM is very accessible and convenient.

“Ililipat muna natin pansamalatala ang office ng COMELEC Baguio sa SM para hindi na mahirapan ang mga botante sa pag rehistro sa masikip na opisina,” said Martin.

The two-day off site registration being undertaken to ease the expected influx of registrants during the last two weeks of registration.

Meanwhile, Martin announced that voters registration at Comelec offices will resume on Saturday, October 17, following its suspension from Oct. 12-16 to give way for the filing of Certificates of Candidacy of the aspiring politicians for various elective positions.

Martin said that except on Oct. 19-20, the Baguio COMELEC office will be opened from 9:00AM to 9:00PM daily including Saturdays and Sundays until Oct. 31.

The deadline of registration is on Oct. 31, 2015 and Comelec has announced that there will be no extension.

Only registered voters with biometrics data can vote in the May 9, 2016 national and local elections./JDP/RMC-PIA CAR
