Contractors Warned Not to Sacrifice Quality of Road Work
April 18, 2015
BAGUIO CITY – contractors of the road work projects being undertaken in this mountain resort will have to redo their work if found to be defective.
This was emphasized by Mayor Mauricio Domogan during the Weekly Ugnayan Presser Wednesday after reports of cracks on newly re-blocked roads have surfaced.
Recently, the mayor called on the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the contractors and the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) for a meeting to address traffic inconvenience being experienced by commuters and motorists due to the implementation of road works in the Central Business District (CBD).
Domogan said, “the contractors will be working double time so road works will be finished before schedule.”
“The road rehabilitation works are right on track and I am happy that some of the projects are ahead of schedule, “ he said.
Domogan however cautioned the contractors not to sacrifice the quality of work over the shortened period of time to finish the projects.
Domogan said, “contractors will be blacklisted and will have to redo the roads which will be proven to be below standards.”
Meantime, the mayor stressed contractors should ensure the availability of flagmen in roads which are undergoing re-blocking to help control the flow of traffic as agreed during talks.
Domogan also ordered the traffic personnel to apprehend vehicles who park in no parking areas especially in roads undergoing rehabilitation as this add to traffic congestion.
Domogan stressed,” motorists, residents and everyone must cooperate and endure inconvenience for just a short period of time if we want top quality roads in the city which will be for the benefit of the public./Paul Rillorta
