LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Cordillera policemen joined the nationwide simultaneous taping of gun muzzles on December 14 as part of the campaign of the Philippine National Police (PNP) for a “gun-free” celebration of Christmas and New Year.
Police Regional Office – Cordillera Regional Director PCSupt. Ulysses Abellera led the PRO-Cor in the sealing off of service firearms of police personnel at the Regional Headquarters.
The different provincial, city and municipal police offices down to the various police stations also sealed off their firearms in support of this PNP advocacy.
Abellera said the traditional gun muzzle taping is a strong message to all gun holders and owners especially policemen and soldiers who are the primary enforcers of the law, not to use their firearms indiscriminately.
He warned all Cordillera cops to refrain from firing their guns if not duty related. Police officers he said should be disciplined and responsible for their firearms and refrain indiscriminate firing during holidays to avoid criminal and administrative charges.
PRO-COR linked up with the other law enforcement agencies and local government units in conducting intensified intelligence efforts to identify and arrest violators, conduct patrols and to arrest those caught firing their gun indiscriminately during holidays. (JDP/ RMC- PIA CAR)
