BAGUIO CITY- – The Commission on Elections (Comelec)- Cordillera reported a total of 906,162 registered voters in the region who are qualified to vote in May 9, 2016 polls.
Benguet has the most voters with 204,497 followed by Abra with 156,968; Baguio with 147,794; Kalinga with 121,375; Ifugao with 112,328; Mountain Province with 98,333 and Apayao with 64,867.
There are also 9,656 persons with disability (PWD) who registered and are eligible to vote. 3,336 are in the province of Abra; 2,633 in Kalinga; 1,479 in Ifugao; 843 in Benguet; Apayao 835 in Apayao; 530 in Mountain Province and 192 in Baguio City.
Of the total, 1,115 have physical disability, 280 for hearing loss, 200 with speech impairment and 819 visually-impaired.
Lawyer Vanessa Roncal, Comelec assistant regional director, is advising the electorate to be early to check their names in their respective precincts. Voting starts at 6:00AM and closes at 5:00PM.
She recommends for voters to bring along their list or “codigo” on the candidates they will vote to cut on time looking at the long lists of candidates.
Roncal also reminds that cell phones are not allowed in the voting precincts and vote receipts are also not allowed to be brought out of the precincts.
‘We should be vigilant and report any unlawful acts committed by the candidates, supporters and the voters so that we will have an honest, orderly, peaceful elections’, Roncal stated. (JDP/JBZ- PIA CAR)
