CVO recommends construction of animal waste treatment plant

BAGUIO CITY – As part of sanitation and environmental safety, the City Veterinary Office (CVO) here is recommending for its own animal waste treatment plant.

City Veterinarian Dr. Brigit Piok said the proposed treatment plant will be constructed with in the Slaughterhouse compound to treat waste water coming from the abattoir instead of being treated at the already overloaded Baguio Sewerage Treatment Plant.

An estimated funding of P12 million is being considered to put up the proposed animal waste treatment plant to effectively and efficiently treat the abattoir wastewater being discharged into the Balili River.

Cordelia Lacsamana of the City Environment and Parks Management Office reiterated that the sewage treatment plant is already overloaded compromising the quality of water being discharged to the Balili River.

Mayor Mauricio G. Domogan instructed concerned offices to fast-track the preparation of the pertinent project documents so it can be included in the city’s priority projects to be funded from the supplemental budget of the local government. /JBZ- PIA CAR#
