Employees realize importance of stress management

BAGUIO CITY – The city government here spearheaded by the City Character Council led by councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda and the city human resource management office conducted a stress management seminar to city hall employees last week at the Baguio City multi-purpose hall.

Said seminar aims to help employees find enjoyment and satisfaction as a stress-free public servant in the work environment, to find simple natural ways of reducing tension, and to learn how to deal more effectively with the symptoms of stress.

“Promoting positive character values cannot be done through the simple enforcement of laws. It needs touching or transforming the mind and heart of an individual through trainings and gives the opportunity to the person to see himself, his horizon, his long term life, his family, work and co-workers,” said acting city human resource management officer. Edith Dawaten.

In his inspirational message, mayor Mauricio Domogan emphasized that Stress starts in us.

“It is a result from a failure of our character which affects our family, co-workers and us. The key to handle stress is to love our work, develop a good attitude, study ourselves and admit our mistakes and shortcomings,” added Domogan.

Highlighting the seminar includes rediscovering oneself, cases and sources of stress and its physical and mental effects as well as common ailments associated with stress; ways to reduce job stress, communication and cognitive structuring; and team dynamics.

With the seminar, the city hall employees realized how to cope up with the adverse reactions they experience because of excessive pressures and demands either from work, interpersonal and/or financial concerns./Jho Arranz
