BAGUIO CITY – The family of a pregnant Overseas Filipino Worker who suffered a stroke and is now due for a costly head operation in Singapore is appealing for help.
Leona Wal last week aired the appeal of son Walter for financial assistance for wife Liezl, 32, who is 17 weeks pregnant to undergo an operation at the Singapore General Hospital to remove the veins that caused her hemorrhagic stroke last July 2.
It will be Liezl’s second surgery after undergoing an emergency craniotomoty which left half of her skull open.
The second operation will cost 100,000 Singapore dollars or P3.5 million. This is on top of the patient’s interim hospital bill which has run to 32,500 Singapore dollars or around P1.14 million as of July 13.
“Our family is in dire need and we therefore appeal for any generous help you may extend to us for the very expensive hospital bills of my wife. We also solicit for your prayers for a miraculous healing power to pour upon my wife and our baby,” Wal appealed in a letter.
Both husband and wife have been working in Singapore for over a year after getting married in March 2016 and have yet to qualify for permanent residency and thus are still not eligible for medical subsidy.
“Being pregnant with our first baby, now on her 18th week of gestation makes her case more complicated. At the moment she is being cared of at the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (of the hospital),” Wal said.
Liezl and her baby are reportedly now in a stable condition. Liezl is undergoing therapy and will stay in the hospital until her surgery.
Leona said their family members based here have been trying to do their best to help the couple by providing moral support and sourcing funds for them.
But with the enormity of the fund needed, “every little bit helps,” Wal was quoted as saying as he set up an GIVE.asia page online to solicit help.
