Former Domestic Helper Badly Needs Help

With nowhere else to turn to for help,. Erlinda Abad, a 48-year old klidney patient made a public appeal last week, hoping readers of this paper would respond and help sustain her twice-a-week dialysis treatment that doctors said must be for life.

The 4th of five children, she reached the third grade and then quit school for good to work as a gardener. The decision was triggered by the unstable relationship of her parents and her need to fend for herself.

At 18 she was hired as a house help until her employer brought her to Quezon City where she worked as a domestic for over 20 years.

“Unfortunately, she was later diagnosed for (end-stage renal failure, and had to come home last year where she took refuge in the home of one of her sisters at Camp 7 here).

Eventually, her parents reconciled and, in their seventies, stay together in her sister’s house.

“Pinapahintulutan ko po na ilathala sa diyaryo ang problema ko (I am allowing the publication of my problem),” she wrote last April 22. “Sana po may mahabag sa kalagayan ko (Hopefully somebody would take pity because of my condition).”

People who can help may visit Erlinda during her dialysis schedule on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Cordillera Kidney Specialists, Inc. within the Baguio Midland Couriter Building along Kisad Rd. They may contact her sister, Carmen Ambloza, at cellphone number 09984656756./Ramon Dacawi.
