Garbage bins donated to city market

BAGUIO CITY – Fifteen pairs of garbage bins were donated by the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (EMB-DENR) to the city, during city hall flag raising ceremonies last week.

The paired garbage bins, for biodegradables and non-biodegradables; were distributed to fifteen chosen sites within the Baguio City Public Market through the different vendors’ association. The bins from the EMB-DENR are part of concrete efforts to assist the local government in educating residents in garbage segregation and diversion, considering the gargantuan cost of bringing these to a landfill in Capas, Tarlac.

According to General Services Office (GSO) in-charge Eugene Buyucan, office personnel attended trainings and meetings anent the donation, with a manual for its operation.

Each bin has a 700-liter capacity and with normal use, has lifespan of five years.

The garbage bins were handed over by EMB-DENR Officers Ricardo Dang-iw and environment officer Dwight Daodao, Jr.; and received by city officials led by Congressman Marquez Go, Acting Mayor Edison Bilog, Acting Vice-Mayor Leandro Yangot, Jr., Councilors Edgar Avila, Lilia Farinas, and Elaine Sembrano.

The garbage bins were among those distributed to Bangued, Abra; Alfonso Lista, Ifugao; Bontoc, Mt. Province; Bulanao and Tabuk in Kalinga. /Julie G. Fianza
