LAGAWE, Ifugao – Mayor Martin Habawel, Jr. has issued last week Executive Order No. K-14 creating the Local Council on Anti-Trafficking and anti-Violence Against Women and their Children (LCAT-VWC).
The LCAT-VAWC is composed of the Mayor as the chairperson with the Chairman of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Women and Family, Senior Citizen, Children and Disabled Person as the vice-chairperson.
Members are heads of national, municipal and non-government office based in the municipality including the chairman of the SB Committee on Transportation and Communication and the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in the municipality.
The Council shall monitor and oversee the implementation of Republic Act No. 10364 or the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2013 and RA 9262 or Anti-Violence against Women and their Children Act of 2004.
It is also tasked to institute policies and programs to protect women and children who are victims of trafficking and violence; create and establish systems on surveillance, investigation and ensure effective and efficient coordination and implement the programs and activities as stated in the national plan of actions. “This is also to increase the capacities of local partners in developing and implementing culturally appropriate and gender responsive programs and empower and mobilize resources of the local community in the prevention, protection, recovery and reintegration of victims/survivors,” Habawel stated.
