TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Jan. 5 (PIA) – – Farmers in the province are set to receive P13 million funding aid from the national government to recover from losses caused by the long dry.
Provincial Agriculturist Domingo Bakilan disclosed the financial assistance is under the El Nino Mitigation Program of the Department of Agriculture (DA) intended to help the country’s agriculture sector cope with the brunt of extreme climatic change.
Bakilan informed the aid will reach the farmers in the next cropping in June following procurement procedures required, since the assistance is given in the form of farm implements.
The P13M shall be downloaded to the provincial government for the procurement of certified rice, corn and vegetable seeds, mechanized water pump sets and livestock.
According to Bakilan, the aid will be distributed to partner farmers associations duly registered with DA through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
The assistance is timely to most farmers here who are reeling from a missed cropping due to the long water cut-off because of the major rehabilitation project on the Upper Chico River Irrigation System.
Bakilan urged farmers to closely coordinate with their municipal agriculturists to hasten the distribution of the aid./JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga
