La Trinidad Celebrates 70th Liberation Day on May 4

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — The municipality of La Trinidad is set to celebrate its 70th Liberation Day on Monday, May 4.

The celebration will kick off with a wreath laying ceremony by town officials headed by Mayor Edna Tabanda together with the war veterans and their families or the Sons and Daughters Association Inc. at the Veterans Memorial Park. It will be followed by the 21 gun salute by the La Trinidad Municipal Police Office and the Police Regional Office Cordillera.

A program proper will follow at the Municipal Park with the welcome remarks by Charles Canuto, president of the Sons and Daughters Association Inc., and the overview of the Liberation of La Trinidad by Major Joel Dacquigan.

Office of the Presidential Adviser on Legislative Matters and a member of the SDAI and the Veterans Federation of the Philippines, Atty. Eduardo Pilapil, and VFP Vice President Gen. William Esplana will be the guest of honor during the celebration.

Tabanda will also deliver her message followed by the testimony of a veteran’s grandson, Dr. Ryan Guinaran, a Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines awardee.

The celebration will be highlighted by the awarding of the posthumous award to the gallant members of the PNP Special Action Force from the Cordillera or the ‘SAF 14’ by Mayor Tabanda and members of the Sangguniang Bayan.

La Trinidad gained liberation from Japanese occupation on May 4, 1945 when the joint forces of the Americans and the 66th Infantry, USAFFE entered the valley./JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
