While millions were gathered at Session Road to witness the Grand Street Dancing Parade of Panagbenga 2016, anti-narcotics agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Cordillera and local police were quietly destroying marijuana worth P22,685,000 at SitioAluling, Tacadang, Kibungan, Benguet.
The marijuana eradication last February 27 led to the burning on site of 52,400 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants; 2,000 pieces of marijuana seedlings; 100,000 grams of dried marijuana leaves and 5,000 grams of marijuana seeds that were all sourced from 7 cultivation sites with an estimated land area of 6,502 square meters.
In a span of two months, government troops were able to prevent unscrupulous drug traders from distributing P109,127,000 worth of marijuana in the local market through marijuana eradication campaigns./ Joseph Frederick Calulut/Public Information Officer, PDEA–CAR
