More infra projects for Cordillera set this 2017

BAGUIO CITY – In line with the Build! Build! Build! Program of the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, more key infrastructure projects are up for implementation in the Cordillera this 2017.

This was affirmed by Department of Public Works and Highways – Cordillera Regional Director Nerie Bueno, in a kapihan media forum where she reported on the accomplishments of their office.

For road pavement projects, Bueno reported that 1,761 kilometers of road projects in various parts of the region were completed in 2016. They hope to bring the accomplished paved roads to 2,247 kilometers this year.

For bridge projects, she reported that 55 temporary bridges in the region have approved funds for their conversion into permanent bridges.

For school building construction projects under DPWH, Bueno disclosed that from the 111 projects approved in 2016, 28 more projects were approved for implementation this 2017.

For other programs and projects, Bueno also disclosednthat they have construction and repair of farm – to market roads as well as construction or improvement projects of offices or building of other regional line agencies.

DPWH – CAR is also continuously working to improve in disaster risk reduction and management particularly on clearing landslides and road closures due to earthquake, persistent heavy rains or strong tropical cyclones.

The DPWH Cordillera regional office improved its rank from 16 th to number 8 in terms of accomplishment . In terms of approved project funds, DPWH – CAR gets P14 billion 2017 budget, five times higher compared to the P3.2 B that was approved in 2016, Bueno stressed.

The increase in budget and infrastructure projects is in line with the “Build! Build! Build!” program of the current administration which aims to strengthen the country’s economy and alleviate poverty by 2022 through the development and improvement of key infrastructures in the region, Bueno added.
