BAGUIO CITY, Jan. 4(PIA) — City Mayor Mauricio Domogan called on the public not to forget the sacrifices and patriotism of the country’s national hero.
“We should continue to emulate and make him as a model in our own respective lives,” Domogan stressed in his message during the city-led 119th commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal last December 30 at Rizal Park here.
“We should not only remember Rizal as hero but the principles and advocacies should be followed and this is the most important thing in commemorating the death and celebration of the life of Jose Rizal,” Domogan stressed.
“May the Rizal, the hero in us, continue to manifest by the lives we live as we continue to advocate the positive changes,” he added noting that nowadays, people just remember Rizal as a hero but they fail to emulate the heroism and patriotism of Rizal.
Congressman Nicasio Aliping Jr. also called on the public to continue to live by the values of Jose Rizal.
“Sana ipagpatuloy natin, sa puso at sa gawa, ang temang Rizal 2015: Dangal ng Pilipino, Gabay sa Pagbabago,” said Aliping. “Panatilihin ang mabuting halimbawang iniwan ni Gat Jose Rizal sa ating mahal na Inang Bayan,” he added.
Meanwhile, Police Regional Office – Cordillera Regional Director PCSupt. Ulysses Abellera said that the sacrifice of the SAF 44 or the Special Action Force heroes is a heroic act just like what Jose Rizal did for the country. The ultimate test of heroism he said is giving and sacrificing one’s life for the country.
“This is also what the SAF 44 did during their heroic act of sacrificing their lives for the country in their mission earlier this year,” he added.
Domogan and the Philippine Military Academy Assistant Commandant of Cadets Col. Monico Batle led the wreath laying at the Rizal Park followed by the traditional 21-gun salute.
Other groups in the city such as the AZKO barangay officials, Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation, the Filipino-Chinese Community and the Rizalistas also offered wreath at the Rizal Park./JDP/RMC- PIA CAR
