CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga – The city government expects to operate its own sanitary landfill next year to address the pressing need for proper waste disposal facility.
City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Salud Lammawin informed processing of requirements is underway for the final issuance of Environmental Compliance Certificate by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to operate the facility.
Lammawin disclosed that while the environmental certificate requirements are being processed, the city government is up with improvements on the 6.4 hectare waste facility situated in Barangay Dilag, some 10 kilometers from the city proper.
The facility is equipped with a centralized material recovery area for recyclable wastes, composting facility for biodegradable materials and markle machine as digester and granulator of biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste products. The granulator machine costing P6.5 million was acquired by the city early this year, Lammawin said.
For its other site improvements, the area has been fenced while paving of its access road and installation of the retaining wall are on-going. (JDP/LL-PIA CAR, Kalinga)#
