LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Vegetable producers of the province took the lead in promoting their lot thru a more than a ton “Giant Vegetable Salad” for the public to feast on for free as a way of celebrating the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post’s (LTVTP) 33rd founding anniversary on Thursday, July 13.
Augusta ‘Agot’ Balanoy, Benguet Farmers Cooperative Marketing Manager, said this was one way of showcasing the vegetable industry of the province to its end market especially among consumers in the lowland areas who may not be aware of the difference between locally- grown and imported highland vegetable varieties.
The group tapped a local culinary arts school, the SKD Academy La Trinidad Campus located at Kilometer 4 to prepare the giant vege salad.
SKD Academy Manager Jonathan Micua said the salad contained a mixture of Romaine lettuce, carrots, cucumber, sugar beets, tomatoes, marble potatoes, alfalfa and some boiled broccoli and cauliflower. three types of vinaigrette sauce- mango, strawberry and honey balsamic were prepared for the salad
The local government helped in the construction of the salad containment, the Philippine and National Police for the flushing of the area to ensure cleanliness of the venue and surroundings, Balanoy said.
Other activities in the anniversary celebration include vegetable carving and vegetable landscaping.
The festive celebration was made possible in partnership with 14 vegetable organizations including truckers, porters, packers, the municipal government, the PNP and commercial banks in the valley.
Like the giant strawberry shortcake of the La Trinidad municipal government that landed in Guinness Book of Record, Balanoy said they hope to achieve the same feat in the future with their giant vegetable salad. (PIA Benguet)
